There is no substitute for simply ‘hanging in there’

The words ‘hang in there’ probably don’t sound like the most exciting advice you want to hear when you’re going through a challenge or a hard time. Really? ‘Hang in there’ is what I need to do? Yep, HANG. IN. THERE.

Another word for ‘hang in there’ is ‘perseverance’, which is mentioned numerous times in the bible. Romans 5 explains what perseverance produces and the Thessalonians were praised for their perseverance. Hebrews 12 wonderfully describes life in terms of heavens grandstands watching us run this race of faith and life and cheers us on to run with perseverance!!

I would love to provide some quick and easy ways to avoid the need to ‘hang in there’ and fast track our way to a solution.

However, my observation in both my work and ministry life is that a key ingredient to getting to the other side of challenges or problems is sometimes to simply ‘hang in there’ and DON’T. GIVE. UP.

I’ve watched, hung out with or had the privilege of serving some amazing men and woman. The greatness others seem to admire in them stems out of many different traits, but perseverance is one that I’ve observed is consistent amongst them all.

We sometimes watch other people’s lives and see the spectacular, but we’re oblivious to the daily grind, mundane, habitual patterns that lead to that moment. I have a saying ‘If we live out our convictions with consistency it will eventually stir a curiosity in those around us’. This principle doesn’t just relate to being a witness for Christ but extends into achieving greatness in any sphere of life. Keep doing the 1%’ers that add up – pray daily, worship daily, read daily, love daily, forgive daily, laugh daily, exercise daily, eat well daily, stay true daily and eventually you will wake up and someone may ask, or you may even ask yourself the question “how the heck did I end up here?”
